Teaching special needs pupils can present a teacher with a multitude of professional and personal challenges. Not least among these is finding appropriate resource materials written with the ability levels of pupils in mind, while also setting out to meet the demands of the National Curriculum.
Present a pupil who has low ability reading skills with a sheet of lengthy written passages followed by a number of questions based on die text, and he/she is immediately presented with a barrier to achieving success and learning. A pupil 's interest and, as is often the case, his/her cooperative behaviour may well begin to falter.
The Science worksheets in this booklet are intended as a resource to support the teaching of Science to special needs pupils who have moderate learning difficulties.
The emphasis has been placed on assisting pupils to understand the Science. To support this, the sheets have not been designed as extensive reading and writing exercises, but ones which will allow pupils to focus on content and encourage them to demonstrate what they know rather than what they do not.
