Using a 'crossword' format students are required to work out answers to mathematical problems.

Special Needs Sums 2

• Addition - there are no combined single figures number questions. Up to one 3 figure number may be used in a question.
• Subtraction - with an answer no higher than 150. Two 3 figure numbers may be used.
• Multiplication - using a range from the multiplication table (up to 13 x 13).
• Division - based on the 12 x 12 multiplication table, some with multiples of 10 (For example, 6000 ÷ 4).
• A Combination - using a mix of the four above.
• A Combination - with word clues using the above first four but with a word clue (and here literacy joints with numeracy). A few questions have more difficult additions.

The uses for these puzzles include as a change of pace in a lesson, to support key skills, for a teacher assistant to support an individual, for a homework and for emergency non-specialist cover!
