Springboard is a series of 25 photocopiable worksheets for drama activities. Each card offers a stimulus and easy to follow instructions for pupils who have a basic understanding of creative drama.

All units of the work include the essential drama skills of:

• listening
• cooperating
• concentrating
• communicating

Each workcard in Springboard has its own specific assignment, but each begins with the class being brought together to read through the sheet so that everyone understands what is expected of them. Classes can then be split into groups as directed by the teacher to discuss the topic they have been given, devise their drama and go on to cast and rehearse it in preparation for showing.

While complete units in themselves, each workcard in Springboard gives plenty of scope for the teacher to provide differentiation and extension exercises. As in all areas of drama teaching, the central resource is the teacher or director and it is only through their enthusiasm that the students achieve success and learn more about themselves and their place in society. Springboard is useful to non-specialist and specialist drama teachers alike in helping to impart this enthusiasm to pupils.
