These mathematics investigations are intended for use in years 7 to 9 where pupils meet investigations for the first time and continue to need further practice to enable them to develop the skills needed for coursework in years 9 to 11.

The sheets take pupils one step at a time through an investigation, from collecting results to symbolic notation.

The tasks are already broken down to give an easy starting point and therefore differ from tasks set in years 9 to 11. All the investigations can be started by pupils of all abilities. The pieces become increasingly demanding in finding the number patterns and developing the algebraic formulae.

Each investigation is followed by detailed teacher's notes and an assessment guide based on the levels of the NC.
