The 'A to Z of Themes' provides 14 - 18 year old Language, Literature and PSHE/Citizenship students with the means to broaden their opinions, compare them with those of their peers and speculate on the modern world.

Through lists of discussion questions, the 'A to Z of Themes' offers:

• provocative points for debate in language classes
• links with typical themes in set literary texts
• parallels with the majority of contemporary PSHE/Citizenship topics.

The Workbook includes questions on Animals, Capital Punishment, Censorship, Creativity, Crime and Punishment, Divorce, Drinking, Drugs and Drug Abuse, Euthanasia, The Family, Fate, Feminism, Friends, Gangs, Ghosts, Growing Up, Heredity and Environment, Identity, Love, Marriage, Mental Health, Money, The Police, Poverty and Starvation, Prejudice, Protest, Relationships and Dating, Religion, Science and Technology, Sport, Vandalism and Violence, War and Work.

Teachers direct students through a variety of issues according to student, class and curriculum requirements. There is ample opportunity for oral development and a range of writing styles: informative; personal; formal; visual; imaginative; creative; narrative; descriptive and analytical.

The workbook includes support for teachers, consisting of:

• a variety of activities to complete for any given topic
• practical advice on setting up discussions that work
• an assessment template for teachers to monitor student progress
• a self-assessment template for students to monitor their own progress

The workbook can be tailored for use across the curriculum and provides continuity between classes and year groups. It can be used independently or as stimulus for topics covered in Language, Literature and PSHE/Citizenship courses.
