Project Packs is a series of teaching resources in music, focusing on particular genres, styles and periods of music.
Each individual Project Pack offers a range of materials for performing and for beginning composing in the particular style, together with user-friendly information on the history and background to the style of music in question.
In performing, each pack contains 4-5 easy arrangements for classroom ensemble. These arrangements include parts for instruments in C and in B flat, parts for soprano and ALTO tuned percussion, and a bass guitar/percussion part. Each ensemble piece also has a piano accompaniment and a full classroom score.
Also included for performing are a range of attractive pieces composed and/or arranged with chord symbols for electronic keyboards.
In composing/improvising, a number of straightforward approaches are given in the form of worksheets.
All the music is note-named for convenience in the classroom, and teaching approaches are suggested.
Guidelines in assessment, which clearly state the task levels and levels of achievement, are set out in box grid form for use by teacher and pupil.
This series of project packs is suitable for 11-13 years, although some packs may work well with other age groups depending on the teaching situation.
The BluesThis Project Pack offers a range of activities for the classroom, focussing on music in the style of the Blues. The Pack contains an information sheets, looking at the history and main features of the music, together with 5 pieces of flexible classroom ensemble, whose parts range from very easy to moderately demanding.
The pieces may be used with classroom instruments only, or with a mix of classroom and other instruments. B flat parts are included, and all parts are given with and without note names for convenience in the classroom.
Also included is a set of straightforward Blue for keyboard, and these pieces range from very easy to moderately demanding. The melodies might also be played by an instrument in C with an accompaniment on piano, electronic keyboard or guitar using the chord symbols provided.
A simple approach to composing (improvising) in the style of the Blues is offered, and 5 worksheets are given.
The materials in this Project Pack have been arranged so as to be accessible and enjoyable, and teaching approaches are suggested.
Assessment materials are included, and these explain clearly the task levels of the piece, together with the levels of achievement. These materials are clearly laid out in box grid form, and may be used by both teacher and student to chart the progress.
This resource is aimed toward age 11-14 but may also work successfully with other age groups depending on the particular classroom situation.
