The Holly and the Ivy

The Holly and the Ivy is a collection of six old and well loved carols which have been prepared to offer the very simplest of classroom arrangements.

These are especially suitable for upper primary and lower secondary age groups for performance at Christmas concerts and in class.

The two part arrangements are clear-cut and very easy and work particularly well with descant recorders and glockenspiels, for which they were originally arranged. Other tuned percussion might be used if preferred.

Each arrangement has a piano accompaniment, two part instrumental score and individual instrumental lines for flexible use.

The parts themselves are simple and repetitive, and this is intentional, making the going easier for teachers working with inexperienced players.

All the parts are presented with and without note names for convenience in the classroom.

Instrumental parts in B flat are included for optional use.

The arrangements would also work well for beginner string players.

For ease of classroom management, the two part scores can be highlighted in two different colours, on the same page, one for each part. The can be done after the parts have been photocopied, and once done, will give a clear and durable package for use in the classroom from year to year.
