Many schools would like their pupils to experience the Internet. It has direct relevance for ICT lessons, however, not all schools have full class access to the Internet.

All schools are concerned about the cost of telephone calls and pupils accessing unsuitable sites!

The Internet on CD enables pupils to experience the power and range of the Internet without actually being connected and running up telephone bills. The Internet on Disk contains more than 50 Web pages that can be experienced as if you were actually surfing the Web. The Internet on Disk comes complete with a fully photocopiable work pack of 20 sheets that contain tasks that encourage less able pupils to use this new resource to find information. A full Teacher's Guide is also included so teachers, including non-computer-specialist staff, will have the minimum of preparation when using this resource.

All Web pages are self-contained and so it is impossible for pupils to gain access to material that may be considered unsuitable. The system can be run from the disk or copied onto a network.

Topics covered include:
  • Navigating Internet Web Pages
  • Mailing lists
  • Hypertext
  • Information on Web Pages
  • Copying Saving and Printing Web Pages
  • News groups
  • Hypertext Paths
  • Search Engine Results
  • E-mail
  • Why Use the Internet
  • Using HTML to create Web Pages

All you need to run The Internet on CD is an Internet Browser such as Netscape or Microsoft Explorer. One of these will have come free with any machines purchased in the last year, or they can be easily downloaded for free from the Internet. Full instructions on how to download are given in the Teacher Guide.
