The traditional art of Storytelling is being promoted across the Curriculum. In order for KS3 students with literacy difficulties to access cross-curricular topics, it is important that they feel comfortable with their literacy, speaking and listening, comprehension, and creative skills.
To increase their confidence and ability in all areas, this resource has been created to target specifically age 11-13 year old students. The resource takes the form of a tale (introducing a specific sound), comprehension activities, crossword, wordsearches and Cloze activity as a recap. The tale can be told by the leader of the group (setting a listening task for the students), read individually or as a group.
The tales are written in an amusing and non-threatening way in a bid to engage the students in their learning. Gone are the days of the cosy reading group at Primary level for these students and they need phonic support with related reading material - something which is not readily available.
The resource provides 'self-delivering' lessons for small groups, which can be tailored to their needs (listening/reading, individual/group work) but which is structured and appropriate. Extra ideas are included in the pack for using the tales in different ways (time line, own legend creation for example).
