The Poetry and The Passion is a resource for teaching poetry at GCSE English and English Literature levels. Although it is designed to service the MEG Anthology, its wider purpose is to support teachers in leading young people to a personal response to poems and to a genuine appreciation of poetry. The Poetry and The Passion will provoke, stimulate, intrigue, inform and encourage students to develop their own reactions and ideas, which is what teachers and examiners are looking for. The study guide is intended to lead young people well beyond academic responses and into a resource to last them a lifetime - a love of poetry itself.

The Poetry and The Passion discusses 55 different poems, including all those for the MEG syllabi for the years 1988 to 2002. The poems are grouped in six themes, but it is open to the teacher to regroup any way they wish. Among the 31 poets represented are Edwin Muir, Robert Bridges, D.H. Lawrence, Thomas Hardy, Wilfred Owen, John Betjeman, Philip Larkin and Sylvia Plath.

The Poetry and The Passion comes with the full text on a PC disk in MS Word, rtf and text formats, allowing teachers to make their own selections from the guide to suit their needs and current syllabus.
