Welsh History Pack Wl - The Quest for National Identity

The early history of Wales covered in the first four sheets is indistinguishable from the rest of prehistoric Britain. The coming of Christianity and the establishment of native dynasties lay the foundations of a national culture which, assailed by Vikings in the West and Saxons in the East, fused into a 'Welsh Identity' by the 10th century. The four attempts at unification (by Rhodri Mawr, Hywel Dda, Gruffudd ap Llywelyn and Llywelyn Iorwerth) and the Norman and Angevin counter measures, prepares the way for Edwardian conquest and assimilation in the 13th century. Period covered: ancient times to 1270.
