The Spelling Handbook - A New Resource for Literacy, is a flexible photocopiable book which identifies the reasons for difficulties in spelling and reading and provides ideas for how these difficulties may be overcome by use of the 'look-learn-cover-write' technique, memory triggers, and a handwriting check list.
Typical problems in English grammar are explained in a straightforward manner, and include homophones, apostrophes, suffixes, tricky endings, plurals and i and e. Appendices include a Glossary of grammatical terms, a guide to writing letters and cvs, numbers, abbreviations and a handy Index.
The Spelling Handbook may be used with 11 - 16 year olds and 6th Form students experiencing difficulties with Dyslexia. It may also be useful in the English Department, to practice specific problem areas, the SEN Department for students and as a guide for Learning Support Assistants in their work and 6th Form students to improve spelling and organisation.
At home, it may be useful for parents who wish to work with children, and purchasing schools are entitled to sell copies of the book to parents of their pupils.
