The Study Skills Pack: Is a resource which supports the development of transferable skills using a variety of topic areas. It is currently being successfully used in the PSHE programmes of a number of schools with pupils aged 11-16. It provides a series of exercises to develop the skills of: skimming and scanning; reading for comprehension, active listening, deductive reasoning, vocabulary development, group work, presentation, thinking skills, visual and oral literacy. The topics are based on exercises using the themes of: 'Shakespeare;' 'Dracula Recipies;' 'Kidnapped;' 'Houndhogs and Marmaselles;' 'Henry VIII- England's Most Notorious King;' 'Elizabeth and Mary;' 'Describing Facial Features;' 'Creating Characters;' Analysing Newspapers;' 'What Makes a Good Local?;' 'Writing Up a Practical Investigation;' and 'Symbolically Speaking.' Overall the materials provide a broad spread of visual, written and spoken literacy and other skills, and have an appeal to visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners. The resource can be used to create a coherent 'learning to learn' series of lessons, perhaps within the framework of PSHE, or can be divided across the mainstream curriculum provide lessons within the Art, Citizenship, English, Geography, History or Science curriculum.

This resource has been developed to use with the AQA PSHE Entry Level Certificate 3910. It contains worksheets for all of the outcomes that must be achieved by a candidate, at all three entry levels. The format of the worksheets closely follows that of the externally set examination sheets. The Examining body provides material and resources for Compulsory Unit 1 (Action Planning and Self-Review) and Compulsory Unit 2, (Drugs Education). For all other units the centre or the teacher must devise appropriate worksheets. This resource is designed to cover that need and provide the teacher with ready to use, easily photocopiable material to cover every required outcomes at all levels for Compulsory Unit 3 and Optional Units 4-9. Completed worksheets can be kept in the candidate's workfile and can then be presented as the essential evidence of achievement and accreditation at the end of the course, along with appropriate teacher written records, (which are included in this pack).

Although set up primarily to receive responses, these worksheets can be used in any way to test a candidates knowledge, understanding and ability. This pack is complete in itself, but it can be used in any combination with other appropriate resources, and it will integrate easily into any teaching scheme. Noting further needs to be added to these worksheets, they are ready for use 'as is'.

Teacher written assessment sheets are included to cover those activities such as role-play, group discussion, mock interviews etc where a student completed worksheet isn't practical.
