The Writing Folio covers several different writing genres and concepts. It takes students through the basics of starting a story, drafting a story and concluding a story. A range of approaches from autobiography to instructional is examined and students are provided with strategies that will enable them to utilise symbolism or a structural twist in their work. In other words, there are a range of models that can be accessed to provide students with incentive to develop their own writing.

One unique aspect of the text is that it is all students writing. The pieces here were generated and written in a classroom environment and the imaginative power of students is, in itself, the greatest resource in a writing classroom.

The structure of each chapter is the same. You will find a comment from an established author about the process of writing. There are the editor's notes where a comment about the context of the story is made or some interesting aspect of the story revealed. There is 'the lesson' that reduces the task to its simplest form. And then there are the activities that are designed to give students something practical to do to generate their own piece of work. The activities are the working end of the chapter where immediate tasks create an awareness of the chapter focus and where students can experiment with their own writing style.

Once purchased, the CD can be freely copied and networked throughout the school.
