Topics for Descriptive Writing 1 & 2

Never be without an imaginative idea for descriptive writing again! These very useful English resources offer a collection of 200 classroom tested topics that will stimulate creativity description.

Each page is devoted to a separate category e.g. animals, townscapes, flight and each offers five ideas for description, four of which are text and one a picture. This format offers variety within a general framework. Thus the material is flexible and can be used in a variety of ways - individually, in-groups, or for class writing sessions. It is easy to adapt the material to the needs of pupils, teachers and the English curriculum.

The resources, designed to promote improvements in descriptive writing, also promotes:

• Note taking and summary
• The adaptation of a vocabulary suitable for a subject
• The formulation of suitable writing structures

The vocabulary and interest levels are suitable for 11-16 year old pupils although many younger children would be able to use these resources

Planning sheets A4 and A5 are provided to aid initial drafting, as are simple record sheets that pupils can maintain themselves.
