This resource comprises a number of topic based vocabulary sheets, and is aimed at 14-16 year old learners of French, and is suitable for all exam syllabuses, which lead to examinations at this level. The language sheets cover such topics as: future plans, booking accommodation, pocket money and environmental problems.
A translation is provided on each page for clarity, and teachers’ notes give further information.
These vocabulary sheets cover a broad range of topics, and are suitable for pupils who have progressed beyond the beginners’ stage in French, and who are preparing for public exams after four or five years of language study.
The resource is intended to be used either for a whole class or for individual study, and can effectively introduce new or revise familiar topic areas.
Vocabulary for each topic needs to be presented in a systematic and organised way: these sheets are designed to cover the necessary language and structures so that pupils will be able to perform well in all four areas of the final exam: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of vocabulary is the key to success! As the resource is organised under topic headings, the vocabulary sheets can be incorporated into any stage of teaching a modular or linear exam course, and can be employed effectively with a variety of techniques.
The vocabulary can be used in the following ways:
- To present a new topic, for example daily routine.
- To extend a topic previously covered at a basic level, for example a discussion on healthy eating could result from teaching a range of vocabulary about food.
- To support or offer greater scope to a topic from a course textbook, especially for more able pupils.
- The resource can be used as an aide memoir when revising topics and key phrases for the Writing exam.
- As learning homework these sheets are ideal, as vocabulary can be memorised in manageable amounts.
- For ICT purposes, they can support the word processing of written coursework tasks.
- To be used as a basis for preparing conversation questions, presentations or transactional role-plays for the Speaking exam.
- Two sheets can be used together to complement each other, for example TV and Cinema with Excuses and Invitations.
- They are ideal for pairs or group work, and for use by a Foreign Language Assistant working in conjunction with the class teachers.
- They provide a valuable revision guide for enhancing the four language skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
