Writing About Me - A Year 7 Resource has been developed to provide a range of activities for English lessons. It is designed to be used in the first term of secondary school for a wide ability range. There are a number of differentiated tasks, which provide an opportunity for pupils to use their personal experiences to write creatively and in different forms. It is structured so that teachers, especially non-specialist and newly-qualified teachers, can use the activities easily. Additional help is provided in the Teacher Guidance notes.

The pack includes Speaking and Listening Activities designed to help in the understanding of the texts or as a way into written tasks. Some of them also serve to promote thought development. A variety of tasks provide pupils with opportunities for:

• Pair work - linked with a mock television interview about hobbies and interests
• Finding out about themselves as a baby
• Interviewing an older relative about their experiences in primary school
• Group/class discussion of texts.

Written activities encourage pupils to write in a range of forms (and to write at length where appropriate) such as:

Personal letters

Diary entries

Autobiography

Book reviews

Time charts

Adventure stories

Reading Activities promote the idea of reading for pleasure and provide an introduction to two pre-20th century writers, Jonathan Swift and William Shakespeare. Literacy Resources include writing frames provided for less abled pupils as well as vocabulary lists.
