'1984' Workbook

The "1984" Workbook is a structured scheme of Literature and Language activities for post GCSE students. It provides direction for both the long and short term and can be used either in its entirety or selectively, depending on course specifications, student and teacher requirements.

The"1984" Workbook promotes the study of a classic Literary text in relation to the modern world and assists students in making insightful comparisons. As a result, the study of "1984" becomes relevant and accessible to all A level and IB students. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for individual study and prepare research papers and/or oral assignments on a variety of different literary techniques and related modern issues.

Part A is text based and enables students to read critically with the help of guiding questions and literary analysis. It includes: chapter notes and questions; essay titles; a test with answers and a study on "The Function of Dreams" and discussion work on "Human Nature".

Part B is language based and can be used independently of the text. The activities include a range of topics and encourage breadth of response through research, evaluation and discussion. It includes assignments on: Groups and Power; The Role of the Family; Communes; Science Fiction; The future; Technological Advances; Censorship; Torture and Geographical Fantasies.
