This guide to sociologist and sociological terms is a succinct handbook intended for students taking Sociology at both GCSE and AS Level.

The whole aim of the resource is to facilitate differentiated learning by addressing the needs of the more able students. Written by an experienced Head of Department, the resource addresses a gap his students thought existed within the educational market. Existing resources do not adequately meet the needs of the higher level GCSE students, principally those who need further intellectual stimulating and for those who seek to go beyond the limitations of the syllabus. Yet having said this, the resource is also intended to act as an introduction to those AS Level students who have never done GCSE Sociology before. The resource can even serve the needs of those students who need of a quick refresher in the subject. The resource was piloted upon a target group of highly able GCSE students and the results were excellent.

In terms of actual content the resource provides a list of quotes from prominent sociologist; all of which have some relevance to the various syllabus routes at GCSE/AS Level. It also includes a useful overview of the contributions made to the subject by sociologists such as Emile Durkheim, Aaron Cicourel, Max Webber, Talcott Parsons, Ann Oakley, Karl Marx, Ferdinand Teonnies, Marcel Mauss and Anthony Giddens. In addition, there is a comprehensive range of sociological terms such as anomie, cultural capital, status frustration, collective conscience, relative deprivation and moral panic.
