A proven resource for road safety awareness, Journeys to School has been written and designed to develop pupils' awareness of Road Safety and in particular their awareness of the risks they are exposed to travelling to and from school. Originally produced for Hampshire LEA, it is now available nationally. Schools have a legal responsibility to promote the personal and social development of their pupils and this pack will help pupils to analyse and assess situations in terms of safety.

Journeys to School provides a useful base through which pupils' skills in speaking, listening, collaborating, recording and evaluating can be assessed and offers opportunities to introduce and reinforce mathematical and geographical skills. It has relevance not only to the Geography curriculum but also to English, Maths and PSHE.

The eight topics covered are:

1. Routes around school
2. Routes to and from school
3. Travelling to school by car or bus safely
4. Identification of traffic Hazards
5. Facilities to aid pedestrians
6. Promoting safer routes
7. Being seen and dressing
8. Surveys of traffic flows

Each section includes:

1. A teacher's page detailing the aims, materials required and any preparation needed, along with suggestions for group and individual work.
2. Pupil sheets with facts and activities.

The text is supported throughout by photographs and illustrations where appropriate.
