This resource features sight words that cannot be decoded using phonic skills. It is designed specifically for students with short term memory. The twelve games are carefully structured to disguise repetition, employing plating cards, dice and counters to appeal to teenagers 12+ and adult students. An inbuilt chance element ensures every player has the opportunity to win.

The sight words are based on the Frequency Lists of McNally and Murray. Ten to twelve words are introduced in each game and are repeated in the ensuing games. They are practiced in the context of short sentences. Reading the sentences is an integral component of the games. Any other words only require basic c-v-c skills.

Chronological lists of the sight words complete the resource. They serve a double purpose. They detail the words in each game and provide a diagnostic assessment. This assessment pinpoints the basic sight words that cannot be recognised and indicates precisely the point of intervention required by the individual student. To promote self confidence, the student begins with a game in which all the sight words are known. The student then continues with the first game shown in the diagnosis to contain words that are known or easily recognised. These words are practiced and reinforced by playing the game.
